Omakase Japanese Cuisine

23 01 2012

I actually have not heard of Omakase until my former officemate brought me and our other officemates there on his last day. I was a little hesitant at first (due to budget constraints), but how can you say no to someone who’s leaving right?

Omakase is the Japanese word for the phrase “I’ll leave it to you”. It’s something you would say to the chef if you want to order something off the menu. Of course we didn’t order omakase. I don’t know if they even offer that kind of service. We did order a lot of food on the menu though.

Omakase salad, Miso Soup, a platter of Maki and Sushi, Udon, Ika Fry and lot more. The food was so good I forgot to take a photo of everything we ordered.

When we got the bill, I was shocked, because it wasn’t that expensive! A budget of 200-300 PHP (around 5-7 USD) per person is enough.

I give it 4 chopsticks!

Last T.G.I. Friday’s Night

7 01 2012

I don’t know why, but whenever there’s an event in the office like a birthday or a despedida, we always go to T.G.I. Friday’s.

Maybe it’s because of the food. Or the ambience. Or maybe it’s just because it’s very near our workplace (as in walking distance).

Whenever we’re there, we always order beer (85 PHP or around 2 USD per bottle)  and Friday’s Ball Park Nachos (495 PHP or around 11 USD).

We also love their Grilled Chicken Ceasar Salad (505 PHP or around 12 USD)  and the Friday’s Three-For-All (695 PHP or around 16 USD), both good for sharing.

It’s really a great place to go to when celebrating something (especially if you have a big group). And now that they offer Bottomless Mojitos (for only 305 PHP or around 7 USD), I think it’s time to go back and do it all again.

I give it 4 spoons.

The Adobo Connection

6 01 2012

There are so many versions of Adobo. My favorite is Chicken Adobo with Liver (cooked by my dad).  Yes, it has to be cooked by my dad.

I tried looking for something similar to what my dad usually cooks at Adobo Connection but couldn’t find one. The closest, I think, is the Adobo sa Gata – Chicken Adobo with coconut milk, garlic and liver sauce (179 PHP or around 4 USD).  It was ok, but it wasn’t as yummy as what my dad cooks.

I also tried Mama’s Mixed Adobo – slow cooked chicken and pork in traditional adobo sauce (169 PHP) and their Gising Gising (99 PHP or around 2 USD) which I loved.

They used to have a branch in Quezon City but now they’re in De La Rosa, Makati.

I give it 3 spoons.

2011 in review

1 01 2012

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 10,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
